In Your Eyes
In your eyes,
I see the person whom I once was.
The feisty yet confident child,
Who was free from life’s intricacies.
In your eyes,
I see the circumstances befalling the child,
Leaving in its wake,
A traumatized and hesitant girl.
In your eyes,
I see the girl maturing with fear,
Living under the radar
And hiding behind a secure shield.
In your eyes,
I see the girl’s volatile emotions,
Frightening those around me away,
Like the ferocious strokes of a paintbrush.
