Cheddar Cheese Cake

There were many leftover blocks of cheddar cheese in the fridge and that led to a form of brainstorming and creativity since the family loves cheesecake. After confirming with Neal on the amount of sugar and salt for the first batch, this is the end-result for today's load.

Ingredients

5 cups flour
1/2 cheddar cheese, finely grated
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup almond flakes
A pinch of cinnamon

1 tsp butter, softened and heaped
3 egg whites
3 egg yolks
1 cup milk

Directions

Line a baking dish with baking paper

  • Alternatively, you can oil a chosen mold with melted butter or vegetable oil
Preheat oven at 180C

In a mixing bowl, blend sugar, butter, cheese and egg whites until combined

Add milk, flour, baking powder and baking soda

Fold in almond flakes

Pour into the prepared dish

Bake for 40- 45 minutes

  1. So brown? Like it's chocolate...but no, you did not add any. I had expected it to be yellow. Looks good though. Wish I could bake, I certainly would give it a try.

    1. It's brown because of the oven temperature, suituapui. I think if I had tweaked the temperature and added another cup or two of cheese, it'd have been yellow, hehe. Don't worry, being able to cook is already good enough. =D

  2. Where does the cheddar cheese come into picture? Don't see it in your step by step..

    1. So sorry, yeah, CL. It's actually with the sugar and butter, but I forgot to add it in the recipe. I've just edited the recipe to include it. =)

Thanks for letting me know. ^^

    1. Thanks, Laura. I'm doing quite okay, still surviving in this hectic society. =) Yes, please give it a try, but if you're not a big fan of saccharine, do decrease the amount of sugar involved, yeah? =D

  4. Oooh, I never would have considered that combo. I suppose it makes sense though - a bit like a breakfast bread?

    1. It's something like that (breakfast bread), Yum List. =D If you ask me, I'll have to say that it resembles more like a morning snack for those fellas who can't eat breakfast (like myself).

  5. It looks really, really good! :)

I like this kind of cheesecake too, instead of the usual ones where you have to keep in the fridge to maintain the cheese layer (usually made with cream cheese).
