I had watched this as a drama series when it first premiered way back when I was a little child, which explains why I can barely remember the storyline - except that the main character was mute as a result of an accident and prioritise his adoptive sister's happiness above his own.

Now, I managed to get a copy of the film after reading about its adaptation somewhere, but I won't ruin the surprise for you guys. The plot kept tugging at my heart stringers, which left me wondering whether it was supposed to be a sad or heartwarming film. With that being said, I'd recommend you guys to watch it, especially if you have watched the drama series before. Two quotes stood out and because my laptop isn't equipped with the Chinese format, I can only write it in English.

  • 'love means never having to say sorry' (1:12:57)
  • 'time waits for no one' (1:30:29)

I related the most with the second quote because time is like a spill that you can never contain. No matter how much you try to stop it, it just doesn't work.

  1. I vaguely remember coming across this drama all those years ago. Nancy Sit! She was always in those 90s and 00s dramas, and some said she looked like my grandma lol. Didn't actually finish watching it all the way to the end. Maybe one day. The first quote you mentioned - something I'm on the fence about. When you're in love and with that someone you're committed to forever, I don't think you should be apologising for most of your behaviour and you just have to accept each other for the way you are. But on the other hand, if you do something that upsets the other it is always polite and thoughtful to apologise. For the second quote, that is so true - time goes on and before we know it, it is always another week, another month, another year XD

    1. It was one of the first TVB series that I loved. The other one was Kindred Spirits (Nancy Sit also acted in that series with her memorable role of Ho Yee). Trust me, it's quite hard to find TVB series nowadays unless you know where you're looking at. I'm facing with it in my search for Triumph in the Skies.

Well.... the first quote just resonated with me for the oddest reason - and I can't quite explain it either. =/

    2. I also remembered watching Kindred Spirits and the character Ho Yi. It has been a while, but I do remember watching a lot of the police, doctor and lawyer TVB shows in the 90s and 00s. Can't remember the titles, but I do remember a lot of the same actors/actresses were in different series :D

    3. The only series that improved my fluency in Cantonese back then. That's true - half of my childhood was spent on those police, doctor, and lawyer themed series, especially 'Healing Hands' and 'Armed Reaction'. I know right! That's how I was able to remember most of the TVB actors/actresses. =P

    4. It does seem like you've watched the dramas I've watched growing up. Detective Investigation, Super Trio and Journey to the West were also what I watched, and I think All In The Family too. If one actor I liked was in a TVB series, I had to check out all the other shows they were in lol.

    5. I'm under the impression that we were born in the same decade, lol. Super Trio was the best game show ever! I haven't been able to find any other game show that could beat Super Trio, man. Detective Investigation sounds rather familiar too - it must be the one starring Bobby Au-Yeung.

I usually watch whatever shows that are on the TV when I'm free - or if my parents are watching a certain drama series. =)

    6. The Super-Trio game show was a classic, though I did prefer watching the earlier seasons in the 90s. The wasabi-sushi challenge was my favourite, and I also really liked the table tennis challenges. Bobby Au-Yeung sounds like such a familiar name... I don't watch these shows or TVB anymore, but if I'm feeling really nostalgic maybe one day why not :)

    7. I didn't fancy Season 7 of Super Trio Series - felt that it took a weird turn. I don't exactly remember the table tennis challenges, but maybe I can't remember it because I haven't watched it in years. It's hard to find the TVB drama episodes nowadays. =/

    8. Haha, I don't think I watched Season 7 onwards at all. The ones in the 90s were the episodes I enjoyed the most. True, hard to find TVB drama shows these days - at least for free and there's hardly any on YouTube, even snippets :/

    9. I didn't watch the full episode for Season 7 as I was out of the country for 3/4 of that time. When I returned to Malaysia, it was already halfway through. I guess we'll have to brush up on our Cantonese fluency through other methods or rent DVDs to watch the series. =(

  2. These TVB dramas thought me a lot of Cantonese. That said, I do think you have better Cantonese fluency than me XD

    1. Lol, I don't think so, Mabel. My fluency in Cantonese is elementary, if not basic, after I learnt Mandarin. =D
